Your UGears Hexapod Explorer is a super cool, extra-terrestrial six-legged crawler!

Part robot, part insect, your model is driven by a powerful spring motor. Watch it walk up to 3 metres on it’s very own legs!

Your Hexapod is a champion walker, and with the ability to bear it’s own weight, it can navigate semi-rough terrain, just like a planetary robot!

To begin your build, pop out the high-grade wooden parts and follow the illustrated instructions - no glue required.

Then, wind the ratchet key on it’s underside to set it in motion by loading the strong metal spring that powers it’s walking action!

With rubber band foot pads to give it better traction when navigating smooth surfaces, you can adjust it’s speed by using the dial on its head.

Let it traverse around rough surfaces and obstacles that are 1-2cm high, then pick it up to see it’s legs come to life, flailing around just like a real crab or spider would do!

Everything you need to assemble your model is included in the box.

It’s a great way to learn basic principles of science and engineering, as well as biology from animal locomotion!

This is a fun puzzle. Not too difficult if you follow the instructions. More importantly, make sure you sand and wax all round parts and the holes they go into; along with all gears. Sometimes sand between teeth to make sure there are no wooden remnants. It moves down the hallway fast. I can't get it to walk slowly. You will need to run the gears while holding the hexapod to mesh the gears to run smoothly several times.

The ugears wooden models are really enjoyable to build. They are very strong when built and wirk well. The instruction booklet is top quality. This won't be my last purchase.

An excellent model to build. I have learnt to use graphite as the anti friction medium on the gears and the wax on flat surfaces. The legs work really well when switched on but it doesn't walk too far, requiring prodding from time to time. When picked up the legs flail around for quite a while. I suspect there is too much friction between the rubber bands on the feet and the surface it is travelling over. Put it on a marble worktop and it travelled much further.

Better than LEGO! Great fun to build, works unimaginably well! I tip my hat to the designers. Not for people with sensitive fingers, though. It's hard to put the pieces together, but when they do, it's soooo satisfying.

It was fun to assemble, and the instructions were very well written. However, it only moves when I'm carrying it; it stays put on the floor. I'm trying to fix this with wax spray and felt strips on the feet.

l love building u gears models i have many of them. As for this one it was fun to build the only thing that exasperated me was the spring which i solved eventually .I highly recommend u gears over all others

The design, thoughtfulness, and detail in this model is really at an unprecedented level for such an approachable item. It works exactly like they showed it would! Throughout the build, I would think ahead and wonder how they could design and execute an aspect of its motion, and when I would first start to understand the direction they were taking me, it created such a satisfying "aha" moment. And the build of this model is full of those "aha!" moments. I got this as a gift. I started building it after a long, stressful day at work as a way to relax and not think about the day or look at screens anymore. The next day at work, I couldn't stop thinking about it and looked forward to getting home so I could continue with it. Thank you, ugears, for making such a delightful product!

This latest model from UGears took me four days to build, working just a few hours each day. The result is very good, but it does have a tendency to turn to the right.
