The Ugears Locomotive and Tender is a step above the rest. Astonishingly realistic and intricately detailed, this may not be Ugears' simplest model, but it's not beyond the capabilities of a beginner model maker. What a fantastic challenge for kids and adults to embark on as a team!

Once you assemble the pre-cut plywood pieces (no glue required), your Locomotive will function in a way that is almost identical to that of a steam train, propelled by an enormous 12 band rubber band engine rather than super-heated steam. The engine is clearly visible from inside the model!

Capable of running a distance of up to 5 metres, the speed at which your train travels depends on how much you wind up the engine. Watch the internal gears and pistons up close as they transfer power to the locomotive's drive wheels through a moving system of rods, linkages and cranks!

It truly is an original piece of mechanical art that requires diligent assembly work over a period of 10-12 hours. There are even little doors and a roof hatch to let you peer inside the cabin, complete with instrument panel, retractable ladder and an open-up tinder with coal doors!

Coming complete with a detailed, step-by-step full-colour instruction manual, each of the pre-cut, eco-friendly pieces are easy to snip out and can be completed in a single sitting for experiences hobbyists. It's a highly impressive piece of model work that is a marvel to look at and discuss!

Anyway, building this model was HUGHE fun. Do NOT expect the set to run free of issues, this is WOOD. I had a piece of wax from a chinese model which helped a lot. Don't know wether a real candle would have worked as well. The most fun for me as a kind of an engineer was the actual gear, I rebuild it five times so it was correctly assembled and fit, also in the frame. To bad it's done. A special gimmik is the gear moving the top doors of the tender. Using tooth picks is a great idea, opended my mind for simple solutions. If one breaks (or even more) you find some in your kitchen in a drawer. IF you inserted some wrongly, yu can use a dremel or proxon with a 2mm drill to oben the connection. I also like that there are some replacment parts. Tips; use wax when installing tooth picks on the picks. Heat the wax with a ligher, especially with the gear wheels. it'll cover the wood and then add some more. If a tooth pick does not fit, try another one, there is quite some tolerance to the diameter of such material. eventually you'll find one that prvides a good fit and is not too tight. Do NOT use force! A small pair of pliers helps. To UGears: Check your assembly manual, some numbers (one or two) are not correct. Have it checked for usability/comprehensiveness. At some (rare occasions) I had difficulties to follow the instructions. Add a piece of wax. great work, good prescision, great fun. Too bad it 's done.. I think I will got for the marble towers next

The model is quite high-quality, all units work smoothly and without any hitches. The only thing is that in the free-running mode the key moves jerkily, apparently the tension of the rubber affects it, pressing it to the front wall. There were two typos in the instructions, which did not affect the quality of the assembly. I find the decision to use toothpicks quite interesting and practical, but I still wished there were fewer of them. I was pleased with the model, as well as the assembly, which took me about 6 hours.

Really good construction exercise for my grandson. One difficulty - it was difficult to put multiple pieces on the tooth picks - I had to drill out the holes to allow this to be done

Really happy with Ugears train model, i think it would be more suitable for the more experienced modelled but it's very satisfying when it's completed.. I would recommend Ugears models to anyone who likes modellig.

This is the best train puzzle, and I have made a lot of them. It is far more intricate than it looks Not a quick build, but your patience will be rewarded with a puzzle that is fun and a joy to show. It runs perfectly, and there's a lot of action to see!

My very first model build from Ugears, It has a special place in my heart. Locomotives had always been very special to me, so seen this was a must have. It's a little more "basic" compared with the newels models, but the gears and mechanism that makes in move it's a delight to see, and illustrates perfectly the workings of a locomotive.

So i finished this Locomotive a few months ago, with was super fun to build and its a perfect decoration. But i want to see it move more. Upgrading this is easy thanks to the design. But i need more Tracks... do i see it right, that this Locomotive would fit on 1:32 Tracks ? or how about wooden Track Kits and Passenger Cars ?

Amazing design. Once my husband had started making this he just could stop. Instructions really clear and great quality. It's brilliant to watch the traIn run with all its moving parts. Expensive but worth the money.

By far the most interesting model of all (the safe came a close second), this is a large and complex model, but once you get it to run - WOW This is beautiful, a real masterpiece - well done Ugears - highly recommended!

This was a present for my 50th Birthday and wow, what a present. It has taken me around 8 hours to build and it was a joy. The quality of the design is brilliant and the quality of the parts amazing. At the end I have a model that I can wind up and it propels itself across the floor or along the rails. A great idea, keep up the good work
